It is fascinating how protective these creatures are of their offspring... even going as far as risking their lives for them. This behavior is present in humans, but I'm surprised to the extent at which it is found in the wild as well. These birds aren't sentient creatures.... yet somehow, they know when it sometimes necessary to sacrifice it all for the greater good of its family and its species.

There were mockingbirds in the parking lot the other day, several of them. They're not particularly memorable or eye catching in appearance, with a rather drab plumage and a meager size. However, they are interesting birds to watch nonetheless. They are highly territorial. They can and will do anything to defend their nest and their young. Not only will they chase after intruders among their own species, but intruders from other species as well. They often pursue and attack the lot's ever-present fish crows... birds that are significantly larger and more formidable. There was even one particularly feisty one that scared away a hawk... quite a feat for a bird of no larger than a cardinal.

"The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese." ~ Unknown
It's good to take advantage of opportunities, however.... one who isn't careful and doesn't take precautions along the way may well find him or herself leaping headlong into the abyss, or worse, winding up like the first mouse. O_o

Welcome to my blog whomever may be reading this! I don't have a particular goal for this blog except that it shall serve as a sort of... proverbial playground for my mind. A place to think out loud, organize my thoughts, express my feelings. Posts will include musings, learned life lessons, quotes I find meaningful, among other things. I do not guarantee this will be the most interesting blog on the internet, however I shall endeavor to ensure that it will not be among the most platitudinous!
Thank you for your time. =)
